We as a family love the sun, the sea and the sand. And what better way to enjoy all of this than by going to Goa. So we quickly packed our bags and headed to our favourite destination.

Our annual family vacations are filled with fun, laughter, joy, adventure, relaxation and of course savouring the local delicacies.

Beaches in North Goa –

Baga beach

Baga beach is one of the most crowded beaches but at the same time, it is still very attractive. The huge scenic attraction is the Baga river meeting the sea. The early morning fresh catch brought in by the fishing boats will be enjoyed by any seafood lover.

We stayed at the Baia de Sol hotel located right on the beach with the Baga river flowing next to it. The hotel provides good and affordable rooms.

The best part of staying in this hotel is that you can watch the early morning fresh catch brought by the fisherman in their boats. You are also able to see the sorting of different types of fish right from your river facing room.

There are many good restaurants like Britto’s and St. Anthony’s within a couple of minutes from the hotel, wherein you can savour the local Goan cuisine and seafood delicacies. You can sit in these beach shacks for hours watching the sea and enjoying the cool breeze. On certain days these restaurants have a live band, which makes it even more enthralling and exciting.

In the evening, these beach shacks become a picturesque sight with candlelight tables and beach chairs. You can savour the local delicacies such as the king prawn rechaedo, chicken cafreal, crab xacuti or pork vindaloo. All the dishes are very tasty and you will relish them. There are also many other beach shacks around Baga which are cheaper and can fit different budgets.

Baga beach is also famous for different types of adventure sports. You have para-sailing, speed boats and banana boat rides. The boat ride takes you for a 1/2 hour ride towards Anjuna and if you are lucky you will be able to see dolphins. We saw a lot of dolphins in the deep sea between Baga and Anjuna. It was a great sight and the children enjoyed the same.

Calangute beach –

The beaches in North Goa are more crowded and bustling with activity whereas the south Goa beaches are less crowded. The Calangute beach is another popular north Goa beach destination. This beach also has adventure water sports such as the water scooter, parasailing, banana boat, scuba diving etc., which makes it very appealing to youngsters.

There are many hotels to stay in, but we stayed at the Chalston hotel  which has an amazing beachfront alongwith good amenities. We have been going to this place for years and we just love this place. The property has rooms and cottages which fit every budget. Try this place and you will keep going back to this place every Goa vacation.

A good 10min walk on the beach will get you to the famed Calangute restaurant – Souza Lobo. Here you will get to enjoy a variety of seafood and local food delicacies. For a good breakfast and brunch, head to Infantria on the Calangute main road.

Anjuna beach –

The Anjuna beach is one of the most favourite beaches in north Goa. Anjuna is our home town and we love to visit this place. The Anjuna village is nestled on the hill overlooking the sea and the beach. The beach is rocky with white sand and is a favourite with foreigners.

The famous flea market on Wednesdays is popular amongst the tourists. The small cafes, Kashmiri handicrafts, dresses, hats, shops etc., make shopping enjoyable. This beach is also close to the Chapora fort.

There are plenty of guesthouses and hotels which cater to every kind of tourist. There are also many good restaurants like the German bakery, Anand, Goan Spice etc.

Vagator beach –

The Vagator beach is one of the most beautiful and scenic beaches. It is very close to Anjuna and is overlooked by hills. The beach is close to the 500-year-old Portuguese fort, the Chapora fort.

Vagator is broadly divided into big Vagator and small Vagator. Small Vagator is also known as the Ozran beach and is more secluded and peaceful.

There are many hotels such as the Ozran Heights, Alcove etc., which offer rooms for a good stay. The restaurants – Thalassa (famous for Greek and Mediterranean cuisine) and Alcove (famous for Goan food) have an excellent view and offer great food.

Candolim beach –

The Candolim beach is located 5-6 km from Calangute. It is much more peaceful than the busy neighbouring Calangute. The supersonic festival is hosted here in the last week of December – around the New Year. There are many hotels and restaurants with good food and amenities, which can be enjoyed.

These are the top 5 beaches in North Goa. If you are a beach lover, then these beaches in Goa should be on your must-visit list. Goa is an very affordable destination for beach lovers as compared to the Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritius. This vacation, plan a trip to Goa and you will surely want to go there more often.
