North East India is one of the most beautiful parts of India. It has hills, mountains, plains with a large variety of flora and fauna. Due to its breathtaking beautiful landscapes, it is soon becoming a popular tourist destination. Hence in this article, we will give you a comprehensive list of the Top North East India Travel Destinations.

North East primarily consists of 8 states like Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Most of the time due to mountains, hilly landscape and unexplored pristine beauty, it was only considered for adventure travel. Today, Northeast attracts families to enjoy their vacation. Families can enjoy the beautiful landscapes, adventure activities, wildlife sanctuaries and a huge variety of flora and fauna.

1. Kaziranga National Park – Assam

Kaziranga National Park located in Assam is one of the most famous and popular places.  This wildlife national park is spread across the plains of river Brahmaputra, surrounding forests, wetlands, and grasslands.

It is famous for the worlds largest population of Indian One-Horned rhinoceroses.  One horned Rhino is an endangered species and currently, there are only three thousand of them left in the world. Out of these three thousand, approximately two thousand are found in Kaziranga national park.

Further, you would love to see many animals like tigers, elephants and different types of migrant birds in this park.

2. Gangtok – Sikkim

Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. It is famous for the beautiful landscape and adventurous things. Some famous places to see are Saramsa garden, Banjhaki falls , hike to Nathu La, Tsomgo lake, Kanchendzonga National park, Nehru Botanical Garden etc. You can also take part in adventure sports like hiking, climbing, trekking, paragliding etc.

3. Kohima – Nagaland

Kohima is a hilly and beautiful capital of Nagaland. It has some unexplored beautiful landscapes. The famous hornbill festival takes place in December in  Kohima.

Some of the popular attractions are churches,  Kohima war cemetery, shilloi lake, Japfu peak, state museum, Zoological park etc. Spending time watching the serene green hills will help you relax and calm your mind.

4. Shillong – Meghalaya

Shillong is a beautiful town surrounded by hills and greenery. The well-manicured gardens at Lady Hydari park are a great joy to watch.

Some of the star attractions are Shillong gold course, Don Bosco center, churches, Elephant falls, Laitlum Canyons, Umiam lake, and many other things.

You can enjoy shopping, walking down glory plaza or taking a boat ride at wards lake. Further, you can also visit nearby places like David Scott trail, Cherrapunji or Lumpondeng Island.

5. Aizawl –Mizoram

Aizawl is the capital of Mizoram and is famous for beautiful landscapes, waterfalls, hills etc. Some of the popular star attractions are durtlang hills, Solomon’s temple, Burra bazaar, Vantawang falls, Khawnglung wildlife sanctuary etc.

6. Tawang – Arunachal Pradesh

Tawang is one of the smallest and beautiful districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It’s breathtaking scenic beauty makes it a point of contention for India and China. While India considers it a part of Arunachal Pradesh, China considers it a part of Tibet .

Some of the major star attractions of tawang are Sela pass, tawang war memorial, Madhuri Lake, Nuranang waterfalls, pankang teng tso lake , Bap teng kang waterfall etc.

7. Imphal – Manipur

Imphal is the capital of Manipur. It is surrounded by beautiful scenic landscapes. Some of the major attractions are Imphal Valley, Kangla Fort, Loktak lake, Imphal War cemetery, Manipur Zoological gardens etc. The Manipur state museum displays the tribal artifacts and large royal boat.

8. Agartala – Tripura

Agartala is the capital of Tripura. The huge white ujjayanta palace buit by Maharaja Manikya is one of the major star attraction. The other popular places are neermahal palace, sepahijala wild life sanctuary, dumboor lake, museum, kalian sagar lake etc.
