Integrity is one of the main qualities which makes families stronger, marriages stronger, businesses successful and has an impact in all areas of life. Integrity helps in enhancing every part of your life.

Importance Of Integrity In Society.

What is Integrity?

Integrity means being honest and truthful in every area of life. It is the decision and the choices that you make, no matter what the opposition is in that area. Integrity is standing up for the right thing, always.

Integrity is closely embedded with one’s character. Therefore doing things honestly all the time will help in building good character. In order to be honest with the world outside, you must be totally honest with yourself first. Therefore it is important to develop your character by consistently doing the right things in every area of your life.

Today, we find many young people making tall promises which they will never adhere to. It is easy to make promises but it is very hard to keep them. If you are a person of integrity, you will ensure that you keep your promises and strive to do things in a proper manner. Every time you keep your word or promise, it reflects on your integrity and helps build up your character.

Your integrity is closely reflected in the way you value things around you. People who have a high level of integrity will do things properly as they are honest with themselves and strive to do excellent work on every occasion. Their work will clearly reflect the values that they hold dear to them. People who have a high level of integrity will attract the best people from different fields. People see your integrity and character, which further helps you becoming successful in every area of your life. So integrity is important, both for the young and the old. Start teaching your children integrity early in life so that they become responsible adults in the future.

Today, we will look at some tips that can help us build our integrity.

1. Always keep your promises or your word.

Keeping your word is one of the most important aspects of good character. Be careful with your words,  be it with your family or outside. Commit things only which you can achieve. Always think and be truthful. Most of the time wrong decisions are taken in haste without given proper consideration to all information.

If you are a leader in a company or even an adult in the house, it is important to do the things you have committed to do. Make every attempt to ensure that you fulfill your commitment. A fulfilled commitment is one of the first points in building integrity.

2. Be trustworthy.

Trust is one of the most important factors in any relationship, whether personal or professional. When you are trustworthy and committed, people acknowledge you as a genuine person and start trusting you. Most of the time in organizations, people who are found trustworthy are given a higher level of responsibility. At home also family members start trusting and depending on you for giving them the right advice. They remember your honest behavior in the past and are more likely to ask you for advise.

3. Be Genuine.

Always be genuine and be yourself. You need to be comfortable with who you are and what decisions you make. Do not look for approval from others when you are making the right decision. Remember making right decisions can be unpopular as many a time you may stand to lose a lot. But it is important to stand for the right things. Later on, people will always respect you for standing up for the right values that you believed in.

4. Try and be surrounded by people who value integrity.

We all know that we are known by the company we keep. We meet a lot of people in our personal and professional lives. Try and surround yourself with people who value ethics, integrity, positivity, good health etc.

In times of difficult decisions talking to like-minded friends and family members will keep you anchored in doing what is right. There will be many tough situations in life wherein you will be tempted to follow unethical practices. But the presence and support of strong people who value integrity will help you to take the right decision.

5. Always keep God first in your life.

This is the most important key to a good life. Always pray and spend time in the presence of God. To be honest and ethical in your dealings is one of the values that God wills to instill in each and every one of us. Proverbs in the Bible say that “ The integrity of the upright guides them always while the unfaithful are destroyed”. Once you spend time in prayer then you will ensure that you live a life which is pleasing to God. Having high integrity is one thing that pleases God.

Some of  the other things that will help you build your integrity are listed below :

  • Do small and little things right, the first time only.
  • Stand committed, be honest and reliable always.
  • Always stay committed to doing the right things ahead of your personal goals.
