  • Take adequate Vitamin C and D

Vitamin D helps in building the immune system, which in turn helps in fighting diseases. Sunlight is an excellent form of vitamin D. A good dose of early morning tender sunlight will give the body the much-needed vitamin D. Fruits and vegetables provide vitamin C, which helps the body fight cold and flu.

  • Have good spices in your food

Many spices like turmeric, chilli, garlic, pepper, ginger have antiviral and antibacterial properties. Include good spices in your daily foods to avoid diseases.

  • Drink hot drinks

It is important to drink hot soups, broths or herbal teas as they give relief to the throat and nasal congestion.

  • Exercise daily

Daily exercise increases the metabolism and the heart pumping rate. It helps to boost the body’s natural virus-killing cells. Exercise builds the immune system. Research has indicated that those who exercise daily are less likely to catch a virus as compared to those who do not exercise.

  • Include a diet that is rich in coloured vegetables and fruits.

All dark coloured fruits and vegetables have “Phyto” which is a natural chemical loaded with vitamins. It also helps in boosting the immune system. Eating leafy vegetables like spinach, broccoli etc. helps in building the immune system.

  • Relax and get good sleep

Relaxing and de-stressing helps to boost the immune system. Ensure that you include a good amount of sleep and relaxing time in your schedule.

  • Avoid getting wet or cold

One of the ways of catching a cold is when you get wet. The only other way you can get a cold or flu is when you are exposed to the virus that causes it. But if you are wet for a long period of time, then it causes the blood vessels in the nose to tighten up, which in turn hinders the body’s defenses against a virus attack. Hence you should try and avoid getting wet or cold.
